I’m Tom Turnbull, founder of Next Phase Law. I’m both a lawyer and an entrepreneur
—so I understand business not just from the outside, but from the inside too.
Before starting this practice, I played key roles in four technology startups, including as co-founder of OpenSesame, an online marketplace for corporate learning. That experience taught me the importance of clear contracts, proactive legal planning, and having trusted counsel who understands your goals—and doesn’t slow you down with unnecessary complexity.
At Next Phase Law, I work with individuals and business owners to plan for the future and protect what matters most—whether that’s through estate planning, business transitions, or ongoing legal support.

A Modern Law Practice for Real Life
Next Phase Law is a virtual firm by design. I don’t have an expensive downtown office or marble reception desk—and that’s intentional. Most meetings take place over Zoom, which means you don’t have to fight traffic or pay for overhead you don’t need. That helps me offer reasonable, transparent fee structures and keep the focus where it belongs: on helping you move forward. That said, I always enjoy meeting clients face-to-face when the opportunity arises. Relationships matter to me—and whether we connect virtually or in person, I want you to feel confident that you’ve got a knowledgeable, responsive partner on your side.
